The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization announced on the 21st that they will hold “Sea 24 Hours: Book Trip” around Anmok Beach in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, combining reading with coffee and the sea.
Book Trip is a cultural event held in conjunction with the Gangneung Coffee Festival, which opens that day and runs from the 21st to the 25th. Visitors can read while enjoying the sea and coffee in a book lounge set up in the pine grove at Anmok Beach.
Around 200 books organized around four themes to reflect visitors’ diverse tastes will be available at the venue: Sea Table (gastronomy), Snap Trip (photography), Gangneung local content (local culture), and travel and coffee (hobbies). Experiential activities such as making bookmarks and writing wishes at seaside travel destinations will also be offered.
The book concerts will also feature broadcaster Noh Hong-chul on the 24th and singer-songwriter and writer Yozoh and writer Kim Shin-hoe (both on the 25th), who will talk about “Seaside Travel and Reading.” Around 200 books used for the event will be donated to Gangneung City Library after the festival ends.
Lee Geun-hee, head of the Korea Tourism Organization’s Regional Content Development Team, said, “This event was planned to combine reading with Gangneung’s local resources—the sea and coffee—to extend tourists’ stays and offer a distinctive marine tourism experience.”
