[Financial News] The Busan Urban Regeneration Expo, marking its 10th anniversary this year, will be held on the 24th and 25th as a local festival-style event at Blueport 2021 and around the wharf in Bongnae-dong, Yeongdo-gu.
According to Busan Metropolitan Corporation on the 21st, this year’s event will be run as a festival focused on on-site activities and mutual benefit for the local community under the slogan “Maritime Capital Busan, Let’s Power Ahead with Urban Regeneration!”
The event will be held in conjunction with Yeongdo M Market, one of Yeongdo-gu’s signature festivals, and will feature special lectures, exhibitions, seminars, a flea market and cultural events.
The event will begin with an opening performance, an award ceremony honoring people who have made contributions, and an awards ceremony for a youth hackathon. Busan Mayor Jeon Jae-su will then give a special lecture on “At the Center of the Great Transformation of the Future: Busan, the Maritime Capital.”
A variety of exhibition and promotional booths will also be set up. Busan Metropolitan City, its 16 districts and counties, and Busan Metropolitan Corporation will operate policy pavilions and a local market. In addition, village communities, cooperatives and other groups will set up promotional and sales booths, giving visitors the chance to see and experience the results of urban regeneration firsthand.
Various competitions and academic conferences on urban regeneration in Busan will also be held. The events will include the Urban Regeneration Best Practices Presentation Contest, which seeks to uncover creative ideas from residents and young people, the Urban Regeneration Youth Hackathon, and a screening of entries in a video contest. The urban regeneration seminar “Walls Left Behind, Futures Rewritten” will also bring experts together to share successful cases of using local industrial heritage, among other topics.
A range of events for public participation, including a local market and traditional games, will also be held. A large flea market combining the Urban Regeneration Local Market and Yeongdo M Market will take place around the wharf, alongside food truck and busking zones. Cultural programs will include the traditional-game-based “Heave-Ho Urban Regeneration Game,” a media dubbing experience and a stamp tour.
Busan Metropolitan Corporation President Shin Chang-ho said, “For its 10th anniversary, we planned this expo as a festival where citizens can experience firsthand and enjoy the achievements of urban regeneration in Busan,” adding, “It will be an opportunity to strengthen Busan’s identity as a maritime capital and help build Busan into a balanced-growth city where people can live well anywhere.”
