【Financial News, Jangseong = Hwang Tae-jong, reporter】“We will protect the environment and secure clean energy, too.”
Jangseong County plans to install an integrated biogasification facility by 2030 and produce biogas by reliably processing a range of organic waste resources, including livestock manure, food waste and sewage sludge.
According to Jangseong County on the 21st, it plans to invest a total of 48.1 billion won from 2027 to 2030 to build an integrated biogasification facility on approximately 12,900 square meters of remaining land at the Clear Water Management Office. The plan is to process a total of 145 tonnes of organic waste resources per day—including 95 tonnes of livestock manure, 25 tonnes of excreta and 15 tonnes of food waste—to produce biogas for use in cogeneration and other applications.
In particular, the county plans to use existing facilities to treat the livestock manure essential to biogas production, reducing project costs and making better use of the facilities.
Jangseong County Governor Kim Han-jong emphasized, “This project will establish the county’s first biogasification facility in connection with existing wastewater treatment facilities. It is significant because it lays the groundwork for using organic waste resources as energy.”
Jangseong County began pursuing the installation of an integrated biogasification facility in 2024 and has steadily carried out the necessary procedures, including completing a feasibility study and commissioning work to draw up a sewerage maintenance master plan (revision).
In particular, last September, Governor Kim Han-jong and relevant officials visited the National Assembly and government ministries to request the inclusion of national funding. As a result, they secured 300 million won for the basic and detailed design work in 2027.
Governor Kim said, “We will ensure the project proceeds without a hitch so that it can help prevent soil pollution and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”
