According to the insurance industry on the 21st, Toss Insurance had 127 planners certified as 2026 GA Outstanding Certified Planners as of the end of last year. This was its first such achievement, four years after switching to face-to-face sales in February 2022.
Now in its ninth edition, the “GA Outstanding Certified Planner” program was introduced by the Korea GA Association in 2018. To qualify, planners must have worked at the same company for at least three years and have a 13th-month persistency rate of at least 90% across life and non-life insurance policies.
They must also have earned at least 45 million won in the previous year and have no record of mis-selling, violating sales-recruitment rules, or insurance fraud. This year, 26,591 people were selected in total, up 19.5% (4,331) from the previous year (22,260).
Toss Insurance cited an insurance consultation environment that puts trust ahead of sales, a digital support system at the highest level in the industry, and internal controls designed to ensure proper sales as factors behind the achievement.
As Korea’s only platform-based GA, Toss Insurance provides each of its about 3,300 planners with two users a day, free of charge, who have requested insurance consultations through the Toss app. This allows planners to avoid pressure to sell to friends and family, even if they lack an established sales network.
The company has also established an “Underwriting Support Center,” a specialist unit that provides real-time guidance on insurability and alternative products based on complex factors such as customers’ medical histories, ages, and occupations. This enables planners to focus solely on analyzing customers’ coverage and considering the best options.
The company applies a zero-tolerance policy to mis-selling. Immediately after consultations end, it collects Net Promoter Scores (NPS) and Voice of Customer (VOC) feedback to identify potential complaints early, and launches an explanation process and disciplinary committee within one to two days. It also operates an automated “coverage analysis script” system to prevent mis-selling.
Toss Insurance launched face-to-face sales in February 2022 with two planners and exceeded the 500-agent threshold for a large GA within a year. In March this year, it surpassed 3,000 planners and entered the super-large GA category.
Toss Insurance CEO Cho Byeong-ik said, “The outstanding certified planners are the result of Toss Insurance’s philosophy taking shape as it creates new standards for the insurance industry. We will continue working to cultivate financial professionals whom customers can trust completely.”
