The indoor leisure facility '9.81 Incheon Airport,' under construction near Incheon International Airport, is nearly 90% complete and is set to open next spring.
DSM, which operates the racing theme park '9.81 Park' in Jeju, said on the 21st that major construction work on '9.81 Incheon Airport,' being built in the international business complex near Terminal 1 of Incheon Airport, has been completed and exterior paving and landscaping work has begun.
DSM is investing 130 billion won to build the facility, a three-story leisure complex with a total floor area of 15,338 square meters. It is set to feature gravity racing that harnesses gravity, a range of activities and advanced gaming systems.
Following its outdoor facility '9.81 Park Jeju,' which opened in 2020, DSM plans to develop an indoor model and expand its domestic and international intellectual property (IP) licensing business. 9.81 Incheon Airport will also serve as a hub for showcasing the indoor model and operating system to overseas business partners.
The company aims to attract 1 million visitors in its first year of operation. It is counting on the 80 million annual users of Incheon Airport and the 26 million people living in the Seoul metropolitan area as its customer base, and estimates the facility's annual sales potential at at least 80 billion won.
The company is also pursuing partnerships with nearby tourism and accommodation facilities. Last August, DSM signed a memorandum of understanding with Paradise Segasammy, operator of the integrated resort Paradise City, to jointly market their offerings and develop tourism content.
DSM CEO Kim Jong-seok said, "9.81 Incheon Airport is a key hub for introducing new leisure content to domestic and international visitors and pursuing expansion into global markets. We will ensure the remaining work proceeds smoothly and make every effort to open next spring."
