[Financial News]  A dog temporarily left in the care of an acquaintance in Incheon was badly injured after being thrown to the floor 13 times in 20 minutes, suffering partial paralysis in its hind legs, among other injuries. The acquaintance reportedly admitted taking out accumulated resentment toward the sisters who owned the dog on the animal.
According to JTBC’s “Sageon Banjang” on the 20th, at around 10:40 p.m. on the 2nd, A, a woman in her 20s who lives in Incheon, was out walking her dog with her older sister and B, an acquaintance from the neighborhood.
When the leash broke during the walk, the sisters picked up the dog and went to a nearby supermarket. Pets were not allowed inside, so they asked B to look after the dog for a short while.
B, who usually liked dogs, agreed. The sisters put their dog in a shopping cart, left it in B’s care and went into the store.
While shopping, A called B to buy them a snack, but couldn’t reach them. After leaving the supermarket, A noticed blood around the dog’s mouth.
According to A, B walked over as if nothing were wrong and said, “Sis, there’s blood coming from the dog’s mouth.”
The startled sisters immediately took the dog to a veterinary clinic. The examination found that one of its claws had come off, causing bleeding, and that blood had also gotten on its mouth as it licked the wound.
The veterinary clinic recommended going to a larger hospital, saying that more detailed tests were needed.
Further tests revealed serious injuries, including a subluxation of a front-leg joint, partial paralysis in the hind legs and a herniated disc.
A said the dog had been diagnosed with injuries requiring four weeks of treatment, and that medical staff had told her that without surgery it could be left disabled or its life could be at risk.
B reportedly went along to the veterinary clinic and filmed the examination. When the sisters asked why the dog was injured, B replied, “I don’t know. I was keeping a close eye on the dog.”
But after reviewing the supermarket’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, the sisters found scenes of B abusing the dog. The video shows B taking advantage of a moment when no one was nearby to lift the dog out of the cart and throw it to the floor.
This behavior was repeated 13 times over about 20 minutes. B moved from place to place to avoid being seen by others, and whenever the dog tried to run away, B caught it again and threw it down.
After reviewing the CCTV footage, the sisters went to B’s home to ask what had happened. But B’s father reportedly called the police, saying, “Why are you causing a scene in my house?”
B reportedly later admitted taking out frustration on the dog because of grievances toward the sisters. B claimed, “I was hurt that they discriminated against me and spoke to me in a commanding tone.”
A’s older sister said it was hard to understand, asking, “We’d known each other for less than a year—what was there to be so upset about?”
The sisters filed a complaint against B on suspicion of animal abuse. According to A, B apologized for their actions but did not answer when asked whether they would cover the dog’s medical expenses.
B’s father reportedly also said that, since his daughter is an adult, she should take responsibility for herself.
The dog’s treatment will require additional expenses. A said, “We’ve already spent 2 million won on surgery, and we need another 5 million won for disc surgery.” She added, “The dog is currently in a cast, and a bone is protruding above its waist.”
