[Financial News] The story of a mother and daughter at odds over a dating app was featured.
A mother who submitted her story to “Lee Ho-seon Counseling Center,” which aired on the 20th on tvN STORY, shared her concerns: “My daughter suddenly changed. She usually doesn’t wear makeup, but all of a sudden she started putting on makeup and dressing up. It turned out she was meeting men through an app. A lot of things about the way they talked seemed odd. She kept suggesting places like DVD rooms for dates. It didn’t seem normal to me.”
She continued, “After a breakup, you should take some time to recover, but she starts dating someone else again after just a week. I think she’s had eight boyfriends in two months,” adding, “I’m worried about all of this. When I talk to her, she says, ‘Why do you care, Mom? Don’t worry about me, even if I live recklessly.’ I wish she would have a mature relationship.”
The mother thought it was abnormal for her daughter to talk about going on a trip together with someone when they hadn’t even seen each other’s faces. They reportedly fought over this, and the daughter also hurled the cruel remark, “Someone like you shouldn’t be a mother.”
The daughter explained, “There’s a curfew, and I have to get permission two months in advance to stay out overnight. Mom controlled me way too much, so I told her someone like her shouldn’t be a mother. She interferes, gets obsessive, and can’t trust her only daughter. That’s why I said it.”
Lee Ho-seon asked, “When a daughter gets angry and hits back like this, it means her mother must have said something pretty harsh. What was the most hurtful thing she said?” The daughter replied, “Because I kept meeting men, she said I seemed like a bar girl.”
Lee Ho-seon sighed, saying, “The mother was in the wrong. She said something far too harsh,” and asked the daughter, “How did you feel when you heard that?” The daughter replied, “So what?”
However, there was a reason the mother controlled and interfered with her daughter so much. In the past, the daughter drank heavily at a work dinner and then stopped responding to calls. The mother went looking for her and found her asleep, slumped over a table at a neighborhood laundromat.
The daughter had also once ended a relationship after seeing a boyfriend she had considered marrying behave disrespectfully in front of her family.
The mother worried that her daughter might not be very good at judging men.
The daughter showed signs of something like addiction, saying that even after deleting the dating app, she would install it again.
She went on to explain why, saying, “I enjoy talking” and “I think I’m really starved for affection.” When she was young, her father and older brother were ill, so her mother couldn’t give her enough attention. She also didn’t have many friends or anyone to talk to.
The daughter explained that her reason for using dating apps was to have conversations rather than to meet men.
