Wonju Mayor Gu Ja-yeol visits Sogeumsan Grand Valley...reviews use of vacant spaces and off-season measures

【Financial News Wonju = Reporter Kim Gi-seop】Wonju Mayor Gu Ja-yeol toured the site in person and joined merchants from Ganhyeon Tourist Area in putting their heads together to find ways to fill vacant spaces at the Sogeumsan Grand Valley Integrated Center and channel tourist visits to local businesses.
According to Wonju City on the 21st, Mayor Gu inspected key facilities at Sogeumsan Grand Valley one by one on the 20th, then met with the Ganhyeon Tourist Area Merchants Association. The visit was arranged to assess how tourism facilities are being operated and develop improvements that would provide practical support to local businesses.
Mayor Gu first visited the Sogeumsan Media Art Center and Inland Water Ecology Experience Center, both located in the Integrated Center, and considered ways to make use of vacant spaces. He then called for efforts to draw more tourists to the temporarily opened local food direct-sales store and turn their visits into income for local residents. He also exchanged views with on-site officials about the difficulties they faced in operating the facilities and areas that needed improvement.
Kim Jong-su, chair of the Ganhyeon Tourist Area Merchants Association, and its members attended the meeting and shared their views on the overall operation of the tourist area. The participants agreed that, for an increase in tourists to invigorate local businesses, the area needed a pedestrian-friendly environment and measures to attract visitors even during the off-season. The city plans to carefully review the views raised that day, discuss improvements with relevant departments, and, through on-site communication, work to strengthen tourism facility operations, improve visitor satisfaction, and revitalize local businesses.
Mayor Gu Ja-yeol said, "I will tackle, one by one, the challenges identified on site today—from making use of vacant spaces at the Media Art Center and Ecology Experience Center to boosting the local food direct-sales store, improving the pedestrian environment, and preparing off-season measures." He added, "By personally overseeing key project sites and incorporating the voices of merchants and residents into city administration, I will develop Sogeumsan Grand Valley into a world-class tourist destination."
