【Financial News | Yeosu = Hwang Tae-jong, reporter】GS Caltex carried out volunteer work with the public and private sectors to build broader consensus on the value of islands and the need to conserve them, and to share with island residents, marking the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo.
On the 21st, GS Caltex’s Yeosu Plant said that around 40 people, including representatives of the Yeosu Coast Guard, Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Yeosu Beauty Volunteer Association, held a joint public-private-industry volunteer event on Wolho Island, Hwajeong-myeon, Yeosu, the previous day.
The volunteer event was part of an action project by the Yeosu Regional Council for New Entrepreneurial Spirit (ERT), launched in December 2024. Public institutions, businesses, and the local community worked together, adding to the spirit of mutual growth.
A GS Caltex Yeosu Plant official stressed, “It was especially meaningful to reflect on the precious value of islands during the Island Expo and to join forces with various institutions and organizations to help residents.”
That day, Yeosu Coast Guard Chief Myeong Seong-min, Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Han Mun-seon, and GS Caltex External Affairs Executive Kim Jong-eun, among others, traveled with volunteers to Wolho Island aboard a Yeosu Coast Guard vessel. After landing, they collected coastal litter, cleaned up the village, tended flower beds, and carried out other activities.
They also operated a “mobile civil service help desk,” delivering first-aid kits containing emergency medicines to residents. They provided hair and beauty services for senior citizens and replaced lights in homes, sharing warmth with the community.
Meanwhile, GS Caltex continues to build mutually beneficial ties with the Yeosu community through various social contribution activities, including “Happiness for 1,000 Won,” “Sharing Chuseok Warmth and Love,” and Saerom Classroom, a youth development support program.
A GS Caltex Yeosu Plant official said, “We will continue to work with the local community and consistently put sharing and mutual growth into practice.”
