[Financial News] TMAP users opened the app an average of 30 times a month this year, according to the company. Tmap Mobility Co., Ltd. is expanding its services to include in-car navigation, 3D route guidance and AI agents, building on growth in mobile usage.
Content use rises, in-car navigation adoption expands
Tmap Mobility Co., Ltd. said on the 21st that from January to September this year, TMAP users visited the app an average of 30 times per month, up about 11% from 27 times during the same period last year. In effect, at least 15 million monthly users used the app about once a day.
TMAP’s average monthly visits rose by more than 10%, from about 403 million last year to about 446 million this year. Customers who used key content such as “Where to Go” and the pedometer accounted for about half of all users. Monthly use of the content rose to about 62 million times, more than double last year’s figure.
The number of customers using TMAP in their vehicles also increased. The number of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay users rose 8.9%, from 2.9 million last year to 3.16 million this year. The number of vehicles equipped with TMAP AUTO, the in-car navigation system, exceeded 1.15 million in September this year, up from 770,000 in January 2025.
Tmap Mobility Co., Ltd. supplies TMAP AUTO to around 20 domestic and international automakers, including Volvo, Polestar, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, JLR (Jaguar Land Rover), Maserati, Jeep, BYD, Renault and GM (General Motors). The company said its technology tailored to driving conditions in Korea, along with planning, development and quality management tailored to each brand’s requirements, had led automakers to choose its system.
Developing 3D lane guidance and AI agents
Tmap Mobility Co., Ltd. is developing “3D lane-recognition navigation,” which displays driving routes on the road using high-definition maps (HD maps). It reflects lane widths and curves, as well as the layout of junctions, to spread a “route-guidance carpet” across the screen. It also displays the surrounding terrain, buildings and roads to help drivers intuitively identify which lane to take.
The company plans to first deploy the system on expressways and other high-speed roads nationwide, then expand it to major urban areas, with commercialization targeted for 2027. It will subsequently work with automakers to display on 3D maps lane markings and nearby objects detected by cameras and advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) sensors. It also plans to link the maps with in-vehicle precision-positioning technology to improve lane-level positioning accuracy.
TMAP AUTO will also be further enhanced with an AI agent integrated with navigation. The goal is for it to understand searches, route choices and driving situations, and provide traffic updates and information about places in line with the context of a conversation. The company plans to find information needed to answer drivers’ questions and connect it to actions such as changing a destination or route, while taking individual guidance preferences into account.
A Tmap Mobility Co., Ltd. representative said, “The trust we have built as a navigation app frequently used by drivers in Korea is leading global automakers to choose us,” adding, “We will enhance the connected user experience across mobile devices and vehicles with next-generation technologies such as 3D navigation and AI agents.”
