Garmin said on the 21st that, alongside the Edge 1060, it had unveiled the Edge Explore 3 and Edge Explore 3 Plus cycling computers, as well as the Tacx Nēra indoor smart trainer.
Control features while riding with “Okay, Garmin”
The Edge 1060 supports voice control using its built-in microphone and speaker. Saying “Okay, Garmin” activates voice commands, letting cyclists check ride data such as heart rate, request a route to a nearby café, or report road hazards such as potholes. The built-in speaker provides navigation and workout guidance, as well as digital bike-bell sounds. When the Garmin Messenger app is connected to a compatible smartphone, users can send voice messages or listen to received messages through the speaker. The battery lasts up to 20 hours under heavy use and up to 60 hours in battery-saver mode. The device has both a touchscreen and physical buttons, allowing it to be operated while wearing gloves or in bad weather.
When selecting a route, users can compare ride time, elevation and bike type. Before setting off, they can check the estimated travel time, traffic conditions and road hazards; during a ride, they can find points of interest (POIs) such as cafés and restrooms. The device also provides information on road closures and potholes shared by other Garmin users. It supports Free Flow Routing, which suggests routes with fewer stops, intersections and slowdowns.
GroupRide and personalized training features
The GroupRide feature detects rides taking place nearby and helps users join them. It also offers messaging among participants, real-time location sharing, crash-detection alerts, and in-ride competition and rewards. Users can manage workout intensity based on real-time stamina, Power Guide and cycling ability, and access Garmin Cycling Coach training plans tailored to their performance, recovery status and course characteristics. To mark the launch of its new products, Garmin is holding a GroupRide challenge in the Garmin Sports app from the 22nd through December 6. Teams of at least three riders compete based on the cumulative distance they cover in the same GroupRide session. Every member of the winning team will receive an Edge 1060, every member of the second-place team a Forerunner 70, and every member of the third-place team an HRM 200 heart-rate monitor. Raffle prizes for participants include 720armour sunglasses, an Edge 1060 and limited-edition Garmin Cycling Club (GCC) jerseys.
The Edge Explore 3 series offers touchscreen-based navigation features, including route selection, finding points of interest and road-hazard alerts. It also supports LiveTrack location sharing, crash detection, real-time weather alerts, and connectivity with Varia radar and smart lights. The Edge Explore 3 Plus has a built-in microphone and speaker, allowing users to request routes or check ride data by voice.
Garmin said the Tacx Nēra indoor smart trainer simulates forward-backward and side-to-side movement to provide a riding feel closer to the real thing. It measures power and cadence with an error margin of up to 1%, and supports gradients of up to 20% and sprint power of up to 2,200 watts. A Zwift Ready model with Zwift Cog & Click preinstalled is also available, and the trainer can connect to virtual cycling services such as Zwift and ROUVY.
The recommended retail prices are 1.29 million won for the Edge 1060, 609,000 won for the Edge Explore 3, 759,000 won for the Edge Explore 3 Plus, and 1.79 million won for the Tacx Nēra. The Edge 1060 will be available from Garmin’s official online store on the 28th, the Edge Explore 3 series from November 4, and the Tacx Nēra from November 24.
