[Financial News] Kim Chong-in, former emergency committee chairman of the People Power Party, advised independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon: “It’s not about being very active on social media; you shouldn’t keep doing things like pointing out only other people’s flaws.”
Appearing on the CBS radio show “Park Jae-hong’s All-Out Showdown” on the 20th, Kim commented on Han’s social media politics, saying, “The issue isn’t how much people write on Facebook, but how the public receives and responds to what they write.”
Kim said, “If Han is to rise to become a leader of South Korea in the future, he needs to change his current attitude somewhat,” adding, “I don’t think he’ll become a leader if he keeps going this way.”
He continued, “The most important thing for people in politics to understand is ‘what sentiments the people of South Korea have,’” and commented on the recent decline in President Lee Jae-myung’s approval rating.
He said, “President Lee communicates with the public more than anyone else and works hard to do so, but his approval rating keeps falling because he fails to properly understand public sentiment and writes posts on social media that the public does not accept.”
He added, “What I always tell Lee Jun-seok, too, is that ‘you don’t become a leader just by repeatedly pointing out and talking about other people’s flaws,’” emphasizing that a leader needs to understand the public’s sentiments and needs.
Kim also pointed out that President Lee’s approval rating in Seoul was below 30% and that Gyeonggi Province Governor Choo Mi-ae was creating a difficult situation. He predicted, “If things continue this way, there is a very high likelihood that the Democratic Party of Korea will lose its standing in the Seoul metropolitan area, which it has maintained since 2016.”
