[Financial News] Meritz Securities is joining forces with the Optimism Foundation, associated with the Optimism blockchain network, to explore potential business opportunities in tokenizing domestic financial assets and distributing and settling them globally.
According to sources in the financial investment industry on the 21st, Meritz Securities signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Optimism Foundation to collaborate on tokenized financial asset businesses. The two sides plan to discuss how to use OP Mainnet, an Ethereum-based Layer 2 network, for financial assets from issuance through distribution and settlement.
The collaboration focuses on examining a structure that could make tokenized domestic financial assets available to overseas investors. OP Mainnet, an Ethereum-based network developed by Optimism, is infrastructure that can be used to trade and settle tokenized financial products.
Meritz Securities plans to review areas in which it can participate in related businesses under current laws and within the scope of its authorization to operate in the securities business. It also plans to determine the specific scope of cooperation in light of developments in the domestic security-token framework and changes in market conditions.
A Meritz Securities representative said, “This agreement is significant because it examines the role securities firms can play in the process of distributing and settling tokenized financial assets on a public Layer 2 network,” adding, “We will continue to explore ways to work with Optimism, prioritizing investor protection and regulatory alignment.”
Jing Wang, CEO of Optimism, said, “We welcome Meritz Securities joining the OP Stack ecosystem. Together with Meritz Securities, we will explore what changes may emerge when issuance and settlement take place on a single open network, and what role securities firms can play in that process.”
Meanwhile, this month Meritz Securities has established partnerships one after another with Ripple and the Canton Foundation and is considering expanding its blockchain-related businesses, including virtual asset custody and the tokenization of financial assets.
