[Financial News] Footage has been released showing former President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife, Kim Keon Hee, singing a duet at a location believed to be their home before they were taken into custody. The two reportedly took turns singing a song from the musical The Phantom of the Opera into a microphone.
On the 17th, Jung Ji-won, a former presidential office aide, posted the video on social media. It is reported to have been filmed before the former President Yoon and his wife were taken into custody.
In the video, Kim sings with a microphone in hand, wearing a T-shirt in a space believed to be their home. She then hands the microphone to former President Yoon, who is beside her wearing white undergarments, and he continues singing.
Jung said the two had practiced songs from the musical after seeing it. He said, “They were an affectionate couple who, remembering how much they enjoyed The Phantom of the Opera, even practiced its soundtrack song ‘All I Ask of You’ as a duet.”
The profile on Jung’s social media account lists the detention center mailing addresses for former President Yoon and Kim. He described his account as “sharing the truth about the false propaganda targeting the former President and his wife that had not been known until now, as well as stories of their modest daily life.”
In August, Jung appeared as a witness at the first hearing of the appeal trial in Kim’s case, in which she is charged with mediation bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes. When asked about Kim’s health after former President Yoon’s impeachment, Jung became tearful and said, “She had to lie down all day and barely ate, so she didn’t even have the strength to stand up.”
Complaints filed with the detention center about Kim’s health also surged. Data obtained from the Ministry of Justice by the office of Kim Eui-gyeom, a Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker, showed that 961 complaints related to Kim’s health were filed with the Seoul Southern Detention Center over the 19 days from July 27 to August 14.
Earlier, in May, there had been only three complaints on the same matter. The number of related complaints is believed to have risen sharply after concerns about Kim’s health became known during her trial.
On the day Jung testified in court, Yoo Jeong-hwa, Kim’s attorney, also posted a health-related post on social media. Yoo said, “Thanks to the complaints, Ms. Kim was able to manage her medication well and receive IV treatment inside the detention center.”
However, internal detention center reports separately documented Kim’s meals and treatment. According to materials obtained by Kim Eui-gyeom’s office, Kim complained of dizziness in August and received IV fluids. The reports showed that she selectively ate the group meals provided by the detention center and also consumed food purchased with funds in her inmate account.
