[Financial News] A middle school student who hit an eight-year-old child with a bicycle inside an apartment complex and left without even leaving contact information voluntarily appeared at a police station with their parents four days after the accident.
According to News1 on the 20th, at around 6:10 p.m. on the 16th, A (8) was struck by a bicycle ridden by middle school student B on a sidewalk inside an apartment complex in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.
A suffered serious injuries, including a forehead fracture, but was reportedly not in a life-threatening condition.
B reportedly left the scene immediately after the accident without leaving contact information or other personal details.
After receiving the report, police put up a banner at the apartment complex seeking witnesses and analyzed nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
After learning about the accident, B’s parents took their son to a police station and came forward voluntarily.
The investigation found that B was under 14 and therefore fell into the category of juveniles exempt from criminal punishment.
The current age range for juveniles exempt from criminal punishment is 10 or older but under 14. Although they are not subject to criminal punishment, cases may be referred to the juvenile division depending on the severity of the offense. Such a referral is a measure by which a court, finding a protective disposition more appropriate than criminal punishment, sends a case to the juvenile division of a nearby family court.
Police are investigating the details of the accident.
