【Financial News Jeju = Jeong Yong-bok】 The Jeju Sports Science Center has deployed six support teams to the 107th National Sports Festival to help athletes in 22 sports manage their condition and recover.
According to Jeju Special Self-Governing Province on the 20th, the center provided condition management and technical and video analysis at preliminary events, including badminton and gymnastics, which began on the 1st. Since the main competition opened on the 16th, it has continued providing on-site support tailored to athletes’ condition, including taping, massage and ice treatments.
The 107th National Sports Festival, hosted by the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (KSOC) and organized by Jeju Province, the Jeju Provincial Office of Education and the Jeju Sports Council, runs through the 22nd. The festival is being held in Jeju for the first time since 2014, 12 years ago.
The number of people using the center rose from 2,315 in 2023 to 3,309 last year. Through September this year, 3,115 people had used it, equivalent to 94% of last year’s full-year total. During the same period, 4,210 sports science services were provided, including fitness assessments and training and recovery management.
A sports science center measures athletes’ fitness and athletic ability and recommends training methods suited to the characteristics of each sport. Based on the assessment results, it provides exercise prescriptions, technical and video analysis, and sports psychology support.
The Jeju Sports Science Center opened in December 2018. It is operated by the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation and the Jeju Sports Council, and provides sports science support to local student-athletes, athletes on corporate teams and others.
After the National Sports Festival ends, the center plans to assess each athlete’s fatigue and injury status and support recovery exercises and tailored training. It also plans to expand information on using its services for schools and sports associations, and to link fitness assessments and educational programs with training-camp teams visiting Jeju.
Ryu Il-sun, head of Jeju Province’s Culture, Sports and Education Bureau, said, “Even after the competition ends, we will continue to support each athlete’s recovery and training, helping Jeju athletes showcase their abilities at their next event.”
