[The Financial News] ChildFund Korea and the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education’s Southern District Office will jointly pursue an art contest, education donations, and support for childcare and self-reliance to expand educational opportunities for children in Seoul’s Guro, Geumcheon and Yeongdeungpo districts.
According to ChildFund Korea on the 20th, the two organizations signed an agreement on “Lifelong Education for Hopeful Groups and Growth” at the Seoul Southern District Office of Education in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, on the 19th. They agreed to cooperate on education donation and lifelong education programs for local children and residents.
The agreement aims to narrow disparities in educational opportunities arising from economic and social circumstances and to establish a sustainable education support system in the local community.
The five areas of cooperation are: jointly hosting and organizing the “Dreaming Artist Contest”; supporting specialized lifelong education programs run by the Seoul Southern District Office of Education; supporting the education donation program “Learning and Sharing Together”; identifying companies to participate in education donations; and supporting children’s care, self-reliance and education.
“Learning and Sharing Together” provides students with free learning opportunities through education donations from private academies and tutoring centers. Eligible students include those receiving education-cost support and those recommended by their homeroom teachers or by operators of private academies or tutoring centers.
ChildFund Korea will draw on its experience and network in child welfare to encourage individuals and companies to participate in education donations and strengthen cooperation on lifelong education programs. The Seoul Southern District Office of Education plans to use local educational infrastructure to expand educational opportunities for children and residents.
Jeong Hwan-yong, head of the Seoul Southern District Office of Education, said, “As the educational infrastructure of the district office and ChildFund Korea’s experience in child welfare come together, it has become possible for children to enjoy learning opportunities regardless of their family circumstances.”
Shin Jeong-won, head of social contribution partnerships at ChildFund Korea, said, “I hope this agreement will help children enjoy a variety of learning opportunities without being constrained by their circumstances.”
