According to police on the 20th, investigators from the Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Metropolitan Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency executed a search and seizure warrant that day at the office of Lee, operator of the YouTube channel ‘Sisa Tapa TV,’ in Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, and at his residence in Ilsan, among other locations. Obstruction of business was reportedly listed as the suspected offense in the warrant.
Lee is suspected of obstructing the work of the DPK Central Election Commission and polling agencies by saying during his YouTube livestreams on August 14 and 15 that viewers should give answers that differed from their actual place of residence or age when contacted by phone for the national opinion poll.
The Democratic Party of Korea filed a complaint with police, alleging that Lee used this to urge viewers to answer as if they belonged to regions or age groups with quotas still to be filled. The poll was also reflected in the results of the races for party leader and Supreme Council members.
Lee has denied the allegations. He said he had only encouraged viewers to take part in the opinion poll on his broadcast and had not instructed anyone to manipulate it.
Meanwhile, Lee filed a criminal complaint against party leader Kim last month, alleging that his DPK membership had been disclosed without his consent. The complaint cited suspected violations of the Personal Information Protection Act and defamation under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, among other charges.
