[Financial News] An arrest warrant for a woman in her 30s who injured eight residents by setting fire to scrap paper her mother had collected has been denied.
On the 20th, Yang Hwan-seung, the judge in charge of warrants at Seoul Eastern District Court, denied an arrest warrant for A, a woman in her 30s suspected of arson of an occupied building. The court determined, “She has a stable residence, and there is no risk of flight or evidence destruction.”
A appeared for a hearing on an arrest warrant at around 1:55 p.m. that day, wearing a white cap and a black T-shirt.
A entered the courtroom without answering reporters’ questions, including “Why did you set the fire?”, “Did you intend to hurt the residents?” and “Did you commit the crime impulsively while drunk?”
Earlier, Seoul’s Songpa Police Station sought an arrest warrant for A on the 19th.
A is suspected of setting fire to the parking lot on the first floor of a multi-family building in Munjeong-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, at around 12:37 a.m. on the 18th. The building is owned by A’s mother, and the two reportedly lived on different floors of the building.
A is reported to have told police that she disliked her mother collecting scrap paper and, after drinking, set fire to the paper her mother had gathered.
Eight residents suffered minor injuries, including from smoke inhalation, and three parked cars were completely destroyed in the fire. The fire broke out in the building’s first-floor parking area, which has a pilotis-style structure.
