Grand Korea Leisure (GKL), which operates Seven Luck, a casino exclusively for foreign visitors, announced on the 20th that it had held an event to attract international tourists through DMZ rail tourism and promote tourism in areas of Gyeonggi Province at risk of depopulation, together with Korail Networks and Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province.
Held on the 17th, the event was the third edition this year and expanded participation beyond visitors to the Seven Luck casino to include international students and tourists traveling in connection with medical tourism. It was organized to introduce foreign tourists to the history of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and the value of peace, and to promote the local economy.
Participants set out from Seoul Station, passed through Munsan Station and continued on to Yeoncheon, where they bought food and local specialties with Onnuri Gift Certificates at Jeongok Traditional Market. They then listened to a military briefing at Taepung Observatory on the front line and viewed North Korean territory, before visiting Jaein Falls, part of a UNESCO Global Geopark.
Grand Korea Leisure President Yoon Doo-hyun said, “I hope this event will introduce foreign tourists to new attractions in Korea and provide a path to overcoming the region’s depopulation crisis,” adding, “We will support the growth of the tourism industry and contribute to the development of the national economy.”
