[Financial News] Korea Maritime and Ocean University said on the 20th that it received 25 million won in university development funds from the Federation of Korean Seafarers’ Unions (hereafter, the Seafarers’ Union Federation) on the 19th.
The donated funds will be used to help strengthen the capabilities of Korea Maritime and Ocean University students, among other purposes.
The Seafarers’ Union Federation has carried out a wide range of activities to protect the rights and interests of maritime workers, improve their welfare and advance the maritime industry.
In particular, it has continued its scholarship program each year to train future maritime officers and outstanding talent who will lead the maritime industry. Since 2021, it has provided annual scholarships to students in seafaring-related departments who are nearing completion of their maritime license requirements. A total of 125 students were selected for scholarships over the six years from 2021 to 2026. The total scholarships awarded to them amounted to 200 million won.
Korea Maritime and Ocean University President Ryu Dong-geun said, “The Seafarers’ Union Federation’s development fund will be a meaningful source of support, helping students devote themselves more fully to their studies and grow into professionals in the maritime field.” He added, “We will continue to provide high-quality education and support so that students can develop the capabilities to lead the maritime industry of the future.”
