[Financial News] Cho Kuk, head of the Rebuilding Korea Party’s Institute for Innovation Policy, took direct aim at independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon, saying, “He must be very anxious and on edge because it seems that ‘pro-Yoon, pro-Han political prosecutors’ or police officers who watch their superiors’ every move won’t protect him.”
On the 20th, Cho referred on Facebook to remarks made the previous day by Park Cheol-woo, chief of the Seoul Central Public Prosecution Office, who appeared at the National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee audit. Cho said Park had replied that “the decision not to transmit the request for judicial cooperation concerning Han Dong-hoon’s daughter is not routine compared with existing work patterns,” and that, regarding the investigation into Cho Kuk’s family and whether it was equitable, “there are aspects that are quite difficult to understand from the standpoint of the public’s legal sensibilities and expectations.”
He then referred to a post that Han had put on Facebook the previous day.
Earlier, Han wrote on Facebook, “The Democratic Party of Korea is using ‘Park Cheol-woo, an extreme pro-Democratic Party prosecutor,’ at the Legislation and Judiciary Committee audit to launch a smear campaign and political retaliation against me,” and claimed that “when Cho Kuk was serving as justice minister, Park was a prosecutor who closely accompanied Mr. Cho and was one of his closest aides.”
In response, Cho countered, “It’s an absurd lie that Prosecutor Park closely accompanied me while I was serving as minister.”
He added, “Park became a spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice after I left the ministerial post,” and said, “I only ran into him two or three times at the National Assembly, when he was seconded there as an expert adviser to the Legislation and Judiciary Committee.”
Cho said, “Unlike prosecutors in the ‘Yoon Suk Yeol faction,’ I got the impression that Park was a gentleman, but I’ve never even shared a meal with him. Han Dong-hoon seems very anxious and on edge, unlike when he was justice minister, because it seems that ‘pro-Yoon, pro-Han political prosecutors’ or police officers who watch their superiors’ every move won’t protect him.” He added sharply, “He indiscriminately lashes out even at perfectly capable senior officials in his former institution.”
