[Financial News] A fire broke out at Hyundai Motor Group’s Uiwang Research Institute in Gyeonggi Province, and fire authorities are working to extinguish it. The blaze is the second at the same research institute in about three months, following a fire at its Next-Generation Battery Research Building in July. No casualties have been confirmed so far.
According to fire authorities, a fire broke out at around 11:40 a.m. on the 20th in a building at Hyundai Motor Group’s Uiwang Research Institute in Sam-dong, Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province.
Fire authorities received a report that “a fire had broken out in a building, producing a lot of black smoke” and are working to extinguish it with 30 pieces of equipment and 81 personnel.
The building where the fire broke out is a two-story reinforced-concrete structure with a total floor area of 3,080 square meters. No casualties have been confirmed so far, and the number of people who evacuated on their own has not yet been tallied.
A fire also broke out at the Uiwang Research Institute on July 28. At the time, a fire at the Next-Generation Battery Research Building prompted fire authorities to issue a Level 1 response and begin firefighting operations. A Level 1 response mobilizes all personnel from the fire station with jurisdiction over the area, along with personnel and equipment from up to four neighboring fire stations. There were no casualties in that fire.
Police and fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the property damage once firefighting operations are complete.
