[Financial News] A humanoid robot built by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) appeared at a National Assembly audit by the Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee, drawing attention. A plan to improve researchers' allowances related to scientific and technological achievements like these will be finalized in the first half of next year.
The KAIST robot demonstrated at the committee's audit of government-funded research institutes, held on the 20th at KAIST's main campus in Daejeon, was about the size of an adult man and operated autonomously. It drew attention as it exited the audit venue after performing a moonwalk dance.
Plans to improve research allowances in connection with these scientific achievements were also discussed. NST Chairman Kim Young-sik said, "The research allowance system is under comprehensive review, and we are pursuing policy research," adding, "The results will be available in the first half of next year."
The explanation was that the core of next year's research allowance plan is to allocate funding freed up by the abolition of the Project-Based System (PBS) according to research performance, with the goal of seeing the allowances trend upward.
Chairman Kim added, "We will develop an incentive plan based on research results."
