Since its debut in 1976, the Golf GTI has helped establish the “hot hatch” genre by combining practicality with sports-car-like driving dynamics, and has become a leading high-performance hatchback. It first arrived in Korea in 2006 and is regarded as a car that combines strong performance with everyday usability.
The limited edition was conceived both to celebrate GTI’s 50-year history and to express appreciation to Korean customers who have cherished the Golf for many years. It was unveiled in Korea for the first time at the 2026 Volkswagen Golf Treffen Korea, held on the 17th at Everland Speedway in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.
The exterior’s standout feature is Dark Moss Green, a new exclusive color introduced to mark GTI’s 50th anniversary. Its deep green hue gives it a different look from the standard Golf GTI. A black exterior package featuring a black roof, black side mirrors and a black front strip further emphasizes the contrast between green and black.
The wheels are fitted with GTI-specific dynamic wheel center caps and valve caps. Inside, a newly added ArtVelour steering wheel offers a distinctive design and comfortable grip, while an illuminated floor mat lights up the GTI logo when the doors are opened or closed.
The powertrain pairs a 2.0 TSI turbocharged gasoline engine with a seven-speed DSG. It produces a maximum of 245 hp and 37.7 kg·m of torque. The Vehicle Dynamics Manager (VDM), an integrated vehicle dynamics control system, works with the electronically controlled hydraulic front differential lock (VAQ) and adaptive chassis control (DCC) to improve cornering, handling and driving stability. The company says drivers can enjoy the characteristic fun of a GTI not only in everyday driving but also on winding roads.
The price is 54.25 million won, including VAT. Every buyer will receive a GTI Welcome Kit and a limited-edition number plate engraved with the unique number assigned to each of the 100 cars.
Programs have also been introduced to help reduce ownership costs. These include a free warranty extension covering five years or 150,000 km, as well as a program that provides support for customers’ deductibles when their cars are repaired after an accident.
Michael Ant, president of Volkswagen Group Korea, said, “Over the past 50 years, the Golf GTI has continued to evolve through generation after generation while remaining true to the essence of driving enjoyment, making it an icon of Volkswagen.”
He added, “The Dark Moss Limited Edition is a special model created to express our gratitude to Korean customers who have loved the Golf for so long, and we hope it will be a meaningful choice for celebrating the 50th anniversary of GTI.”
