[Financial News] Efforts continue to further reduce the harm to nearby villages from pests arising at the dredged material disposal site at Busan New Port.
The Busan Port Construction Office, under the Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, said on the 20th that it will hold the 2026 Second Expert Advisory Meeting on Pest Management on the 22nd.
The meeting is part of the ongoing research project to develop pest management measures for the dredged material disposal site at Busan New Port. It is intended to review the response system for pest outbreaks and develop ways to improve existing pest control and management guidelines.
Experts and researchers in fields including pest control, ecology and toxicology will take part in the meeting and review current management practices during a site visit to the dredged material disposal site. They will then exchange views on pest monitoring, pest control and management systems, and ways to respond to public complaints.
The Busan Port Construction Office plans to update its existing pest management guidelines based on the experts’ recommendations at the advisory meeting. It also aims to minimize inconvenience to residents caused by pest outbreaks by developing effective pest control and management measures that take site conditions into account.
Yun Yeong-su, head of the Port Development Division at the Busan Port Construction Office, said, “We are working with experts to find effective management measures so we can address the pest problem at the dredged material disposal site in a more systematic way. We will continue to do our utmost to protect residents’ living environment through ongoing site management and improvements to pest prevention measures.”
