[Financial News] The Walt Disney Company has appointed Carol Choi, its head of media marketing and local content in Asia-Pacific, as its new president overseeing the region. She will take up the post on Dec. 1.
The Walt Disney Company said on the 20th that Luke Kang would retire after 16 years in the role as president overseeing Asia-Pacific, and that Carol Choi would succeed him.
Incoming president Choi will lead Disney Entertainment’s businesses in Korea, Greater China, Japan, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand. She will oversee studios and Disney+, local original content production, consumer products, media networks and content sales, among other areas.
Choi, who has worked at Disney for 20 years, has served as an executive vice president in Asia-Pacific, overseeing the studio business, original content strategy and integrated marketing. She previously served as president of Disney Japan and The Walt Disney Company (Korea) LLC, and held key positions in Greater China.
Alan Bergman, chairman of the studio division at Disney Entertainment, and Jimmy Pitaro, chairman of ESPN, praised Choi’s operational experience, creative instincts and understanding of the Asia-Pacific region, saying she was “the ideal person to lead the region into its next chapter.”
“The Asia-Pacific region is home to the world’s most passionate fans and dynamic creative communities,” Choi said. “I look forward to working with our employees and partners to deliver outstanding stories and experiences, grow our business, and further strengthen the bond between Disney and fans across the region.”
Luke Kang said, “It was an honor to lead Disney’s Asia-Pacific region during a period of significant growth and change.” He reflected that he had built a foundation for the business, expanded the influence of its stories and brands, and laid the groundwork for reaching fans in a variety of ways. He went on to describe Carol Choi as “a leader with a deep understanding of the business, a passion for creativity and an exceptional instinct for consumers,” adding, “With these strengths, she will lead continued growth in the Asia-Pacific region.”
