Household glassware maker SGC Solution continues its environmental protection efforts, from cleaning up the marine environment to reducing the use of single-use products. It is putting eco-friendly management into practice by drawing on its expertise as a glass manufacturer to promote reusable containers while having employees take part directly in environmental cleanups.  According to industry sources on the 20th, SGC Solution held an adopted-beach cleanup on the 16th at Wonsando Beach in Boryeong, South Chungcheong Province, with employees taking part.
An adopted beach is a marine litter reduction program run by the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation, in which companies or organizations adopt a specific beach and regularly collect litter and maintain it. Since adopting Wonsando Beach in 2022, SGC Solution has continued its cleanup activities for the fifth year this year.
Head office employees who took part in the activity collected various kinds of marine litter, including discarded plastic, abandoned fishing nets and fishing gear, from the shore. The company also encouraged employee participation by arranging a program to evaluate the amount collected by each team and award the top-performing teams.
Alongside its marine cleanup efforts, SGC Solution is also working to reduce the use of plastic and single-use products in everyday life. One notable example is the ‘Switch On Campaign,’ which features its Glasslock glass food storage containers. Now in its second year, the campaign focuses on encouraging the use of reusable products instead of single-use items.
The company is also continuing product donations in partnership with environmental organizations and welfare institutions. In the first half of this year, it donated about 1,200 Glasslock glass food storage containers and tumblers to medical institutions and environmental groups, including Green Hospital and People's Action to Build a Society Free of Carcinogens. The donations aim to reduce the use of single-use products in hospitals and daily life and promote a culture of resource circulation.
These activities are significant in linking the business characteristics of a glass manufacturer with environmental protection. The company is expanding its efforts beyond promoting reusable containers through its products to include marine litter cleanups and contributions to local communities.
“We consider responsible corporate action and the voluntary participation of our employees to be important values in creating a sustainable environment,” SGC Solution CEO Lee Kwang-soo said. “We will continue a range of environmental protection activities, realize environmental value and fulfill our social responsibilities.”
Other SGC Group affiliates, including SGC Energy and SGC E&C (pronounced E and C), also take part in environmental cleanup activities in their respective regions.
