[Financial News] Questions have been raised over whether safety measures for an on-site staff member were inadequate during a bungee-jumping scene in a variety show featuring actor Koo Sung-hwan. After a complaint related to industrial safety was filed, the Ministry of Employment and Labor said it would review the details and handle the matter in accordance with law and principle.
On the 16th, MBC’s variety show I Live Alone aired footage of Koo Sung-hwan attempting a bungee jump with an acquaintance. Viewers later raised concerns about remarks made as Koo jumped and the safety management of the on-site staff.
Viewers questioned the safety measures taken by the staff member assisting Koo with his bungee jump. Since the staff member’s fall-protection equipment was not clearly visible in the broadcast footage, some said it should be confirmed whether the person was wearing appropriate protective gear.
However, the broadcast footage alone did not establish whether safety equipment was actually being worn or whether safety rules had been violated.
As the controversy continued, a netizen was reportedly said to have filed an industrial safety petition through the e-People portal. The petition asks officials to check whether adequate fall-prevention measures were in place for the employee working at the bungee-jumping site.
The Gangwon Branch of the Jungbu Regional Employment and Labor Office, under the Ministry of Employment and Labor, said it would review the complaint and handle it in accordance with law and principle.
