[Financial News] On the 19th, President Lee Jae-myung said, “The state must now also take responsibility for firefighters’ lives and safety and protect them,” expressing his intention to strengthen measures to protect firefighters.
Lee wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that day, “The safe everyday lives we enjoy are thanks to the dedication of firefighters who put themselves at risk to protect the lives and property of the people,” adding this.
He went on to stress, “We must improve on-site manuals to take firefighters’ safety into account, and expand and modernize advanced safety equipment, including firefighting robots and multipurpose drones.” He added, “We will also consider ways to strengthen support so firefighters can ensure their safety and focus on their duties even at dangerous scenes.”
Lee also offered words of comfort to the firefighter who was recently seriously injured while protecting the public and to the firefighter’s family. He said, “I feel deeply sorry for the firefighter who suffered serious injuries while protecting the public,” and, “It pains me to think about how painful and difficult a time you must be going through.”
He also wrote, “I’m all the more moved to hear that even in that situation, you expressed your gratitude to the citizens who made way for you. I hear your wife is also a firefighter. I offer you both my deepest sympathy and sincerely hope that you, the firefighter, recover your health as soon as possible.”
Lee said, “We will put in place effective measures with a tangible impact in the field so that firefighters’ dedication does not end in a tragic ‘last call.’”
