[Financial News] If your card number has changed due to a reissue or for another reason, but the old number is still registered with Everyone's Card, transit fare refunds could be affected for trips taken from the 27th. Check and update your number on the Everyone's Card website or app by midnight on the 26th. New sign-ups and card registrations will be suspended from midnight to 10 a.m. on the 27th for system maintenance.
According to the Metropolitan Transport Commission (MTC) of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 20th, the revamped Everyone's Card system, following the supplementary budget, can accurately track usage only if the registered card number matches the number on the card the user actually uses. The MTC said refunds for users whose numbers do not match may be disrupted for trips taken from the 27th onward.
During maintenance, users will be unable to sign up, register a new card or change a registered card. To minimize inconvenience, the MTC and card companies chose to carry out the work overnight. However, the end time may be adjusted depending on how the work proceeds. Users can still pay public transit fares with Everyone's Card during maintenance, and refunds will continue to accrue as usual.
The check is simple. Log in to the Everyone's Card website or app and compare the registered number with the number on the card you currently use. If the numbers match, no action is needed. If they do not, simply update the registered number to your current card number.
This is not the first time the MTC has asked users to update their card information. It has issued reminders several times in coordination with card companies since June. Starting with a related press release on June 9, it sent guidance messages and other notices three times, and posted notices through card companies and on the Everyone's Card website and app. The initial notice set July 7 as the deadline. Many users have since updated their information, but some have yet to do so, the MTC found.
Everyone's Card is a system that expanded and revamped K-Pass, a public transit fare refund program launched in May 2024, this January. The revamp introduced a new fixed-amount refund option. Under this option, users receive a refund for all transit expenses above a set monthly threshold: 62,000 won for general users in the Seoul metropolitan area and 55,000 won elsewhere. The supplementary budget in April also included an incentive that raises the basic refund rate by 30 percentage points for public transit trips taken during staggered hours—one hour before or after commuting times. The number of users stood at 4.66 million in February and surpassed 5 million in early June.
MTC Chairman Kim Yong-seok said, “I sincerely thank the many people who have helped update their card information for Everyone's Card,” adding, “I hope those who have not yet updated their information will make sure to do so by October 26 and continue to enjoy the transit fare refund benefits.”
