[Financial News] LG Electronics will share with global customers the history of home appliance innovation it has pursued since its founding in 1958, as well as its vision for future businesses, including AI Home and home robots.
LG Electronics said on the 19th that it had recently unveiled a brand heritage video themed “Life Asks, LG Answers” on an outdoor billboard in Times Square, New York, U.S..
The video was created to promote the “Zero Labor Home” vision, which aims to reduce the burden of household chores so customers can focus on more valuable pursuits. It shows how LG Electronics is expanding its business into physical AI fields, including AI Home and home robots, drawing on the technology and customer experience it has built through its home appliance business.
The video highlights the evolution of LG Electronics’ flagship home appliances: washing machines and refrigerators. In the washing machine segment, it features key products ranging from the Baekjo Washer, Korea’s first washing machine, launched in 1969, to the LG TwinWash, which combined a front-loading washer with a compact top-loading washer in 2015, and the LG WashTower, which integrated a washer and dryer in 2020.
In the refrigerator segment, the video shows the course of innovation from the Nunpyo Refrigerator, launched in 1965, to Magic Space, which lets users take food out without opening the entire refrigerator door, and KnockOn technology, which allows users to check inside by knocking on the door. Cumulative sales of products featuring KnockOn surpassed 5.3 million units in the 10 years after their launch.
The video also showcases changes in home appliance design. It traces designs that have evolved to suit living spaces and consumer tastes, from refrigerators made with wood in the 1980s to the LG Objet Collection, which lets customers choose colors and materials, and SKS, the ultra-premium built-in appliance brand Signature Kitchen Suite.
The expansion of core component technologies into the robotics business also stands out. LG Electronics has advanced key home appliance technologies, including inverter DD motors and AI DD motors, since developing a motor for electric fans in 1962. More recently, it has developed the LG Axium actuator, which functions as a robot’s joint, building on those technologies and extending their application into physical AI.
The latter part of the video shows the evolution of robotics technology, from an educational robot in 1983 and a cleaning robot in 2003 to the LG CLOi service robot in 2018. It also presents a vision of the future of AI Home, where household chores are minimized, through the LG CLOiD home robot unveiled this year.
Following its appearance in New York’s Times Square, LG Electronics plans to show the video at Piccadilly Circus in London, UK and on major over-the-top (OTT) platforms. The video runs for 160 seconds in total, and a 30-second edit will also be released depending on the platform.
Ryu Ju-hyun, who is in charge of HS Marketing Communications at LG Electronics, said, “We will share with global customers LG Electronics’ heritage of innovating for better lives and our vision for the future, and continue to communicate our differentiated brand value.”
