[Financial News] Democratic Party of Korea leader Kim Min-seok has come under fire after it emerged that a vehicle was parked in the hospital’s emergency-patient-only parking area during his visit to pay his respects to a firefighter who died in the line of duty. His chief of staff, Rep. Kim Tae-seon, apologized.
On the 19th, Rep. Kim said on his social media (SNS), “The vehicle parked in the emergency-patient-only parking area during the visit to pay respects to the firefighter who died in the line of duty belonged to our office.”
He added, “It was my fault, with no excuse under any circumstances,” and apologized again, saying, “I sincerely apologize for causing concern to the public, and I will take particular care to ensure this never happens again.”
The previous day, Kim Min-seok visited Soonchunhyang University Bucheon Hospital, where the funeral was being held for the late Fire Lieutenant Kim Jin-seok, who died in the line of duty at the scene of a factory fire in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province.
The controversy arose after KBS reported that the vehicle Kim Min-seok used during the visit had been parked in the emergency-patient-only parking lot for about 30 minutes.
A sign is posted in the emergency-patient-only parking lot stating, “Parking by outpatients and inpatients is prohibited, and guardians bringing emergency patients are also asked to move their vehicles to the underground parking lot after registration.” Kim was reportedly driven away from the hospital in the same vehicle after paying his respects.
