Daejeon TP said it held an inauguration ceremony for its eighth president, Park Min-beom, on the 19th in the main auditorium of Daejeon Technopark’s Eoullim Plaza in Taplip-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon.
In his inaugural address, the newly appointed President Park outlined a vision to develop Daejeon TP into a key platform connecting the Daedeok Special Zone’s unrivaled research capabilities and foundational technologies with tangible growth for local businesses, as well as a game changer that will transform the paradigm of the local industrial ecosystem.
Since entering public service in 1996, President Park has served in a range of key positions, including Daejeon City’s policy planning officer, deputy mayor of Dong-gu and director general of the Administration and Autonomy Bureau. He is an administrative and policy expert who has handled major issues and industrial policies for Daejeon City.
President Park officially announced four key strategies outlining the institution’s future direction: building an integrated data platform for Daejeon’s industries; developing a mid- to long-term roadmap for fostering Daejeon’s strategic industries; providing tailored support packages for each stage of business growth; and strengthening Daejeon TP’s standing as the city’s leading hub institution.
The plan is to boost the competitiveness of the region’s future industries by carefully analyzing real-time data from industrial sites and companies’ challenges, then providing “pinpoint-style support packages” tailored to each company’s growth cycle.
He also announced sweeping changes to the organization’s management system. President Park said he had established “3Gong management”—fairness, empathy and sharing—as a core principle. He said the institution would fairly and transparently select and support capable companies, listen to voices from the field, and foster a culture of sharing achievements with executives and employees.
He also plans to establish a horizontal communication culture that respects differences in job titles as differences in roles rather than as a hierarchy of control, and to substantially strengthen the autonomy and accountability of each department, creating an environment where employees can make the most of their creativity and expertise.
“I will devote all my capabilities to ensuring that the outstanding research achievements and foundational technologies accumulated over many years by the Daedeok Special Zone lead to growth for local businesses and stronger industrial competitiveness,” President Park said. “By listening to voices from the field and leading by example, I will develop Daejeon TP into a top institution leading innovation in local industries.”
Meanwhile, one of Daejeon TP’s most important tasks is to strengthen the “technology-matching ecosystem” so that highly sophisticated advanced technologies held by government-funded research institutes and universities in the Daedeok Research and Development Special Zone can be smoothly transferred to local small and medium-sized enterprises and venture companies for commercialization. Under the new president’s leadership, how effectively Daejeon TP builds a “full-cycle technology commercialization support system”—covering everything from technology transfer and scale-up to entry into global markets—is expected to be a turning point in fostering the region’s advanced industries.
