【JAKARTA, Indonesia—Correspondent Aulia Maulida Hamdani】Hyundai Motor's exports of fully built vehicles produced in Indonesia totaled 30,781 units from January to September this year, down 29% from the same period a year earlier.
According to local media reports on the 19th, data compiled by the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) showed that Hyundai's exports of fully built vehicles (CBUs) from January to September this year fell sharply to 30,781 units from 43,334 in the same period last year. The 29% decline was the steepest among major finished-vehicle exporters in Indonesia. Over the same period, Indonesia's total CBU exports fell 2.7% to 371,260 units, from 381,644 a year earlier.
Hyundai ranked fourth in export volume, while the top three companies—Toyota, Daihatsu and Mitsubishi Motors—exported 130,582, 95,368 and 84,971 units, respectively.
By brand, Toyota's exports rose 0.4% from the same period a year earlier, while Daihatsu's and Mitsubishi Motors' increased 6.7% and 12.8%, respectively. Suzuki, ranked fifth, posted a 45.7% decline to 12,132 units, joining Hyundai in recording weak results. Among the top five brands, Hyundai and Suzuki saw relatively large drops in exports.
By contrast, Chinese automaker Wuling increased its exports 14.3%, from 912 units in the same period a year earlier to 1,042. As Indonesia's overall CBU exports decline, whether Hyundai's export performance recovers is also expected to serve as a key indicator of overseas sales trends for vehicles produced locally.
