[Financial News] The broadcast schedule for The Long Shot Trial, an SBS drama starring actor Ha Young, has been postponed. The schedule originally set for next February has also been changed amid ongoing controversy over the pro-Japanese activities of Ha Young’s great-grandfather.
According to No Cut News on the 19th, Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) said the broadcast schedule for The Long Shot Trial had been postponed. The series was originally set to air in February 2027.
SBS said it was reviewing options for the broadcast while taking into account the cast and staff involved in the production. “Given that this is a project made together by a large number of cast and crew members, we are carefully considering options from multiple angles,” the broadcaster said. “No specific broadcast timing has been finalized yet.”
The Long Shot Trial is a comedy drama starring Lee Je-hoon and Ha Young. Set in a law firm led by a current office manager who previously worked as a lawyer, it tells the story of a ragtag group of staff members.
The controversy began after Ha Young discussed family history on a variety show last August. At the time, Ha Young said hers was a family with doctors across four generations, from her great-grandfather to her grandfather, father, and older sister.
Criticism of the great-grandfather’s past actions arose after he was identified as An Sang-ho, who studied Western medicine in Japan and opened a clinic in Korea.
An Sang-ho had previously been listed as a member of a pro-Japanese organization and was featured in Maeil Sinbo, the official organ of the Japanese Government-General of Korea, as an exemplary case of “Japan-Korea unity.” Allegations of pro-Japanese activity were raised on the basis of this record.
After her great-grandfather’s past actions became known, Ha Young issued a public apology. “I bow my head and apologize for causing you deep disappointment and hurt over matters related to my great-grandfather,” Ha Young said. “Recently, learning about my great-grandfather An Sang-ho’s past actions has led me to reflect on my family’s history with a heavy heart.”
Ha Young explained that what she knew about her great-grandfather had amounted to stories she had heard from family. “Until now, I had only a fragmentary understanding of my great-grandfather’s life, based on stories passed down through my family,” Ha Young said. “I am ashamed to say that, in that state of ignorance, I brought up my great-grandfather at various events as though he were a source of family pride.”
Ha Young also explained that she learned of her great-grandfather’s pro-Japanese activities while checking related materials after the controversy. “This prompted me to look up related materials for myself, and in the process I learned about my great-grandfather’s pro-Japanese activities,” Ha Young said. “I regret having spoken lightly about my family history without properly knowing the history of our country, which endured the painful period of Japanese colonial rule.”
