[Financial News] Technology that can identify hazards in advance, even in blind spots beyond the reach of vehicle cameras and radar, and prevent traffic accidents is drawing attention. This is Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology, which enables vehicles, road infrastructure and pedestrians to exchange information in real time and alert drivers to dangerous situations in advance. Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. said it would showcase traffic safety solutions using this technology at the 2026 ITS World Congress, which opened in Gangneung on the 19th.
The ITS World Congress, running through the 23rd at Gangneung Olympic Park, is an international event where government, industry and academic representatives and technology experts from around the world gather to discuss intelligent transportation systems policy, technology and services.
This year's theme is “A World United Beyond Mobility.” Key topics include vehicle connectivity, autonomous driving, smart infrastructure and traffic management, mobility services, AI- and data-based systems, and policy, governance and standards.
Qualcomm will showcase the potential applications of V2X technology through a total of seven demonstrations at the event. Extended V2X, Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS)-based V2X, smart road infrastructure and global V2X technologies are among the main areas on display. Products from partner companies equipped with Qualcomm solutions and products will also be featured.
The demonstrations focus in particular on how V2X can overcome the limitations of existing vehicle sensors. Rather than relying solely on a vehicle's own sensors to detect its surroundings, the technology enables it to receive information from road infrastructure and other road users, allowing it to identify dangerous situations more comprehensively. It can be used not only to improve traffic safety but also to enhance traffic flow and the efficiency of road operations.
Qualcomm Korea President Kim Sang-pyo will deliver a keynote address at the event on “Accelerating Transportation Safety.” “Drawing on at least 40 years of experience leading innovation in mobile connectivity, Qualcomm has led the development of a global ecosystem with a range of partner companies, from standardizing V2X technology to commercializing it and deploying it on real roads,” Kim said.
He continued, “In Korea, too, we are supporting the development of safer, more intelligent transportation systems based on interoperability testing that reflects real-world road conditions.” He added, “We will continue to improve road safety through forward-looking connectivity solutions and expand new possibilities for future mobility.”
