【NEW DELHI, India—Pragya Awasthi, Correspondent】Kia India posted its highest-ever monthly sales after the launch of the new Kia Sorento sport utility vehicle (SUV) and strong sales of its key models. The Kia Sorento, officially launched on the 4th of last month, got off to a solid start, with 1,739 units delivered in India’s domestic market in September and cumulative sales reaching 2,104 units over two months.
According to local media reports on the 19th, Kia India recorded its highest-ever monthly wholesale sales in September, with 32,017 units. It was the first time in the seven years since the company entered India’s passenger car market that monthly sales had topped 30,000 units, surpassing the previous record of 29,556 units set in October 2025.
The Kia Sorento is a premium three-row SUV that competes in the Indian market with the Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tayron. It is offered in 32 variants and, unlike competing models, features a high level of localization in India. Its body is the longest and widest in its class, and it is available in both six- and seven-seat configurations.
Kia India sold a cumulative 89,259 units in the second quarter of fiscal 2027 (July–September 2026), up 39% from 64,443 in the same period a year earlier. Sales were also up 12% from 79,424 in the previous quarter. First-half sales in fiscal 2027 (April–September 2026) totaled 168,683 units, about 58% of the 289,035 units sold in all of fiscal 2026. Local observers expect Kia India could reach annual sales of 350,000 units in fiscal 2027 if its current growth continues and the Sorento expands its foothold in the midsize SUV market.
Among Kia India’s key models, the Seltos and Sonet led sales growth. The new Seltos, launched in January 2026, sold 67,667 units in the first half, up 99% from the same period a year earlier. Its share of total sales also rose to 40%. The subcompact SUV Sonet sold 56,929 units, up 21% year over year, accounting for 34% of total sales.
By contrast, combined sales of the Carens, Carens Clavis and Clavis EV, all multipurpose vehicles (MPVs), fell 18% year over year to 34,284 units.
