【Hanoi, Vietnam—Correspondent Kim Jun-seok】South Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Lee Mi-yeon met with Vietnam’s Minister of Public Security Lương Tam Quang and agreed to develop public safety and security cooperation between the two countries into a key pillar of the Korea-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
According to local media and other outlets on the 19th, Ambassador Lee visited the Ministry of Public Security headquarters in Hanoi, Vietnam, on the 16th and told Minister Lương Tam Quang, “I am pleased to serve as ambassador to Vietnam at this important time, as the Korea-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership continues to deepen.” Emphasizing the importance of public safety and police cooperation in bilateral relations, Lee thanked Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security for actively supporting the safety of the South Korean Embassy in Vietnam, Korean companies operating there, and Korean nationals.
Lee also sought the ministry’s continued cooperation during the ambassador’s tenure, saying, “I will do my utmost to serve as a bridge by promoting exchanges between the two countries’ public security authorities and strengthening cooperation on crime prevention and response, so that bilateral relations can develop in a deeper and more substantive way.”
Minister Lương Tam Quang congratulated Ambassador Lee on taking up the post in Vietnam and described “public safety and police cooperation” as “a very important pillar underpinning relations between the two countries.” Minister Quang explained, “The two countries have maintained existing dialogue mechanisms smoothly, including vice-ministerial-level security talks and police cooperation meetings, and have worked closely together on crime prevention, information sharing, practical training, the protection of nationals abroad, and multilateral cooperation.”
Minister Quang then proposed focusing on effectively implementing existing cooperation frameworks and preparing for the 8th Korea-Vietnam Police Cooperation Conference, scheduled for this coming December, and the 4th cultural and sports exchange event between the Korean National Police Agency and Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security.
He also called for further strengthening information sharing and joint responses to high-tech, drug-related, and transnational crimes, while emphasizing that Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security would continue to support the South Korean Embassy in Vietnam, Korean companies, and Korean nationals in the country, helping ensure their safety and security and facilitate their activities.
