【Hanoi, Vietnam—Correspondent Kim Jun-seok】Taking advantage of the “2026 Meet Korea” event held in Dong Nai City in southern Vietnam, South Korea’s ambassador to Vietnam, Lee Mi-yeon, held a series of meetings with senior leaders of Thai Nguyen and Ninh Binh provinces to discuss support for Korean companies operating locally and ways to strengthen cooperation between local governments.
According to local media on the 19th, Lee Mi-yeon, ambassador at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Vietnam, met with Nguyen Dang Vinh, standing deputy secretary of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee, at the event venue in Dong Nai City on the 15th.
At the meeting, Ambassador Lee praised the achievements of economic cooperation between the two countries and the contributions Korean companies have made to Vietnam’s economic development. “It is very important to maintain a stable, transparent and consistent investment environment,” she said. “I hope Korean companies will further expand their investments in high technology, smart manufacturing and green growth in Thai Nguyen Province.”
Deputy Secretary Vinh said Korean investors currently have a total of 122 projects in Thai Nguyen Province, with cumulative registered investment of $16.479 billion (about 21.9 trillion won), accounting for 84.5% of the province’s total foreign direct investment (FDI). He explained that major conglomerates, including Samsung and POSCO Future M, have established operations there, driving the development of an electronics industry ecosystem, job creation and regional economic growth.
Deputy Secretary Vinh stressed that Thai Nguyen Province wants to continue attracting Korean companies in electronics, semiconductors, supporting industries, smart manufacturing and green technology. He also pledged to improve the investment environment by streamlining administrative procedures, making information more transparent and providing dedicated support for key projects, and asked the embassy and investment promotion agencies to actively serve as bridges.

On the same day, Ambassador Lee also met with Dang Thanh Son, vice chairman of the Ninh Binh Provincial People’s Committee. She expressed her gratitude for the provincial government’s attention and cooperation in supporting Korean companies’ investments and business expansion. She added that, with major companies in the automotive industry operating locally, positive effects are expected in attracting partner companies, building supply chains and developing supporting industries.
She also outlined the growing investment by Korean companies in areas such as infrastructure, logistics, industrial parks, smart cities and energy, and proposed sharing information with Ninh Binh Province about projects and cooperation opportunities.
Vice Chairman Son explained that Ninh Binh Province had established cooperative relationships with several local governments in South Korea, including Gyeonggi, Jeju, Asan, Jecheon and Dongducheon. He said South Korea is currently one of the province’s major investment partners, with 215 FDI projects and total registered capital of $2.69 billion (about 3.5 trillion won).
Vice Chairman Son went on to say that he hoped Ambassador Lee would serve as a bridge connecting Ninh Binh with South Korean local governments, institutions and companies. He added that the province hoped to strengthen ties with organizations including the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), the Korean Chamber of Business in Vietnam (KOCHAM), the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to attract investment in advanced technologies and expand cooperation in tourism, culture, education and people-to-people exchanges.
