[Financial News] SK hynix will launch 2 trillion won in financial support for semiconductor materials, parts and equipment companies, together with the government, K-SURE and commercial banks. The program will help partner companies secure financing by expanding their loan limits and reducing their interest and guarantee fee burdens.
SK hynix said it held a signing ceremony for the ‘Export Supply Chain Enhancement Guarantee’ and presented the first guarantee certificate on the 19th at the promotional center for the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster, located in the Yongin General Industrial Complex in Gyeonggi Province.
The event was attended by Noh-Jung Kwak, president and CEO of SK hynix; Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jung-kwan; representatives of the Korea Trade Insurance Corporation, KB Kookmin, Shinhan, Woori and Hana banks; and representatives of partner companies in the semiconductor materials, parts and equipment sector.
The Export Supply Chain Enhancement Guarantee is a financial program designed to support small and midsize semiconductor materials, parts and equipment companies struggling to secure financing due to high interest rates and a global economic slowdown. SK hynix and commercial banks contribute funds, while K-SURE provides guarantees to support a total of 2 trillion won in financing.
Eligible companies receive expanded loan limits and preferential interest rates, and can also reduce the burden of guarantee fees incurred during the loan process. At the event, the first guarantee certificate was presented to a partner company receiving support.
Before the signing ceremony, attendees visited the construction site of the first fab at the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster and the site of the planned ‘Trinity Fab.’ The Trinity Fab is an advanced semiconductor fab being built within Yongin Fab No. 1 to connect with mass production, with the government, local governments and SK hynix jointly investing a total of 870 billion won.
The facility will support the testing and validation of technologies and products developed by domestic semiconductor materials, parts and equipment companies in an actual semiconductor production environment. It will help small and midsize companies that lack their own testing facilities commercialize their products and accelerate the localization of advanced technologies and products. The aim is to ease the commercialization burden on partner companies by supporting both financing and performance verification before mass production.
At a subsequent meeting, partner company representatives shared on-the-ground suggestions for stabilizing the semiconductor supply chain and achieving technological self-reliance. Attendees discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between large and small and midsize companies.
“Building a robust ecosystem for semiconductor materials, parts and equipment is essential to secure the global competitiveness of Korea’s semiconductor industry at the national level and further strengthen the standing of the ‘K-Semiconductor Belt,’” Noh-Jung Kwak said. “With support from the Export Supply Chain Fund and the one-stop technology verification environment provided by the Trinity Fab, we will join forces with our partner companies to further solidify our technological leadership in the global semiconductor market.”
