【Financial News, Daegu = Kim Jang-uk, reporter】“Outstanding in preventing and managing healthcare-associated infections!”
Daegu Health College Hospital received the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) Commissioner’s Commendation for Contributions to the Prevention and Management of Healthcare-Associated Infections in 2026, in recognition of its contribution to preventing healthcare-associated infections and curbing their spread.
The commendation was established to recognize and encourage people who have contributed to responding to and preventing healthcare-associated infections, in observance of Healthcare-Associated Infection Prevention and Management Week.
Kim In-gyu, executive director of management at Daegu Health College Hospital, said, “This commendation is the result of all our members putting patient safety first and adhering to infection-control principles.” He emphasized, “We will further strengthen a management system in which surveillance, prevention and response work together, and create a healthcare environment where patients and their caregivers can feel safe.”
Since being designated a sentinel surveillance institution for healthcare-associated infectious diseases in 2019, Daegu Health College Hospital has continuously monitored the incidence of infectious diseases and the identification of pathogens, and regularly reported diagnostic test results and patient information to relevant agencies.
It was highly praised for accurately providing surveillance data needed to understand infectious disease activity at the national and regional levels.
In particular, the hospital has established a response system linking its clinical care, nursing and diagnostic testing departments, centered on its infection control office. When a suspected infection case arises, it promptly implements patient management, isolation and preventive measures.
It also conducts regular inspections by the Infection Control Committee alongside staff training, working to embed basic practices such as hand hygiene, standard precautions and the use of personal protective equipment in clinical settings.
Meanwhile, Daegu Health College Hospital opened on March 8, 2010, with the founding philosophy of “contributing to the improvement of human health and quality of life through high-quality education, research and medical care, with love and hope as its guiding principles.”
The hospital is part of the same legal entity as Daegu Health College. Since the college has neither a medical school nor a dental school, the hospital is not affiliated with a medical school. However, for students in health-related departments such as nursing, dental hygiene, clinical laboratory science, physical therapy and occupational therapy, it serves as their college's own hospital, clearly offering advantages in practical training and employment and ultimately helping improve the university’s admissions outcomes.
