[Financial News] As Korea Airports Corporation expands the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) technology at airports, it has moved to strengthen ethical standards to protect personal information and ensure safety. In recognition of its efforts to establish relevant systems, including an AI ethics charter and training for employees, it was designated an “AI Ethics Compliance Institution” by a government-affiliated agency. The strategy is to ensure both passenger safety and trust as airport services undergo digital transformation.
Korea Airports Corporation said on the 19th that it had been designated an “AI Ethics Compliance Institution” by the National Information Society Agency (NIA) on the 8th and had received a certification mark.
The AI Ethics Compliance Institution scheme is operated by NIA, under the Ministry of Science and ICT, to promote responsible AI use in the public sector. It issues a certification mark to institutions that meet certain requirements, including establishing AI ethics principles and completing ethics training.
In August last year, Korea Airports Corporation established an AI ethics charter and set out ethical principles centered on public interest and personal information protection. It also provided online AI ethics training for employees, strengthening their capacity to use AI safely and reliably.
The corporation also held a campaign for airport users. In July, it held a “Digital Ethics Week Campaign” at Gimpo and Jeju airports, introducing AI services used at airports and holding a quiz event to promote responsible AI use.
Korea Airports Corporation plans to check whether new AI services introduced at airports comply with ethical standards. Along with improving passenger convenience through the adoption of technology, it will also focus on protecting personal information and rights.
Korea Airports Corporation President Kim Won-jun said, “AI technology used at airports must take into account not only passenger convenience but also safety and trust,” adding, “We will protect the public’s personal information and rights and work to create AI airport services that everyone can use with peace of mind.”
