[Financial News] The Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) is holding a contest to identify and address information security vulnerabilities in web services. This year, it will select a total of 12 teams, divided into general and university student categories.
TS announced on the 19th that it would accept applications from teams for the 8th TS "Find the Security Flaws!" contest from the 23rd through the 30th.
Eligible teams must be affiliated with a company or university, and their members must belong to one of the Korea Information Security Industry Association (KISIA), the Korea Institute of Information Security and Cryptology, or the Korea Convergence Security Association. Each team may have no more than four members.
Teams wishing to participate should submit the relevant documents, including an application form and a consent form for the use of personal information, by email during the application period. The general and university student categories will be run separately to identify talent who will lead the information security field in the future and broaden opportunities to win awards.
The competition will be held on November 7. TS plans to select the final winners by evaluating the types and impact of the web service security vulnerabilities identified by participating teams, as well as the difficulty of finding them.
Certificates and a total of 7.5 million won in prize money will be awarded to 12 teams: one Grand Prize, two Best Awards, four Excellence Awards, and five Encouragement Awards. Further details are available in the notices on TS's official website.
TS operates a 24-hour security monitoring center for its websites and checks for information security vulnerabilities every year. Since 2019, it has held contests involving white-hat hackers, private-sector security experts, to keep pace with the latest hacking techniques.
TS Chairman Jung Yong-sik said, "By holding an annual contest to identify information security vulnerabilities, we are cultivating outstanding information security experts and proactively improving TS's information security environment." He added, "We will continue to pursue a range of public-private partnership projects and do our utmost to protect the public's valuable information."
