[Financial News] BYD Company Limited (BYD), a Chinese electric vehicle maker, is expanding into overseas markets for ultra-fast charging infrastructure, starting with Indonesia. It plans to build a charging network using its self-developed flash-charging technology and also launched premium electric vehicles equipped with its second-generation BYD Blade Battery. The strategy is to expand its business model overseas, combining electric vehicle sales with batteries and charging infrastructure.
BYD said on the 19th that it announced plans to build a flash-charging network in Indonesia on the 14th and launched the new D9 and Z9GT from its premium brand Denza.
This is the first time BYD’s flash-charging technology has entered an overseas market. BYD plans to first install flash chargers at 10 Denza showrooms in Indonesia so customers can try them out, and to gradually expand the public charging network starting at year-end.
The flash charger is distinguished by its integration with an energy storage system (ESS). BYD was the first in the world to apply a T-shaped suspended design. It also improved convenience by introducing a “Zero Gravity” charger that reduces the burden of the charging cable’s weight, and a Plug and Charge function that enables charging authentication and payment simply by connecting the vehicle.
Alongside expanding its charging infrastructure, BYD also strengthened its new-car lineup. The new Denza D9, a luxury multipurpose vehicle (MPV), is the first model to feature the second-generation BYD Blade Battery and flash-charging technology. It targets families and business customers with improved driving range, powertrain performance and ride comfort.
The Denza Z9GT, launched alongside it, is a luxury electric vehicle combining high-performance driving with intelligent control technology, built on a dedicated e3 platform. BYD aims to expand its foothold in Indonesia’s premium eco-friendly vehicle market with the two models.
Liu Xueliang, vice president of BYD Group and general manager of its Asia-Pacific Automotive Business Unit, said, “BYD’s technological innovation has gone beyond simply making and selling cars.” He added, “I believe technological innovation can create greater value for society and bring the benefits of advanced technology to more people.”
