[Financial News] Busan Metropolitan Corporation announced on the 19th that it had successfully held the 2026 Korea Airport Infrastructure Inaugural Forum, co-hosted with the Korea Airport Infrastructure Society on the 7th at Busan Port International Exhibition & Convention Center.
The forum was the first official academic event held by the Korea Airport Infrastructure Society since its founding. The society received approval to be established from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport last April. Experts from related industries, along with representatives from academia, research institutes and public institutions in the airport infrastructure sector, attended and discussed future directions for the development of airport infrastructure.
The society’s inaugural forum was held under the theme “Strategies for Building Sustainable and Safe, Future-Oriented Infrastructure for Gadeok Island New Airport.” The event began with opening remarks by society president Jeong Jin-gyo, followed by presentations and a plenary discussion.
The presentations covered geotechnical considerations for the successful construction of Gadeok Island New Airport, airport construction materials, and an AI-based integrated platform system for sustainability across the life cycle. Strategies were also presented for expanding and upgrading Gadeok Island New Airport’s infrastructure to accommodate future air traffic.
The ensuing plenary discussion, moderated by Professor Kim Yun-tae of Pukyong National University, brought together expert panelists who exchanged views on expanding infrastructure for Gadeok Island New Airport and development strategies for western Busan.
Busan Metropolitan Corporation President Shin Chang-ho said, “This forum was a meaningful occasion for experts in airport infrastructure to gather in one place and consider together the future direction of Gadeok Island New Airport,” adding, “We will continue to foster public-private-academic cooperation and do our utmost to make Gadeok Island New Airport and the airport-centered urban complex key hubs driving Busan’s future growth.”
