At a Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Han said, “Today (the 19th), the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee will hold a parliamentary audit of the Seoul Metropolitan Government.” He added, “After controversy over the Han River Bus kickback allegations intensified during the Public Administration and Security Committee’s audit on the 15th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government waited until the following day, the 16th, to belatedly ask police to investigate.”
Democratic Party lawmakers on the Public Administration and Security Committee raised suspicions during the parliamentary audit of the Seoul Metropolitan Government that a suspicious flow of funds involving a broker had been detected in the project funds paid to the company that built the Han River Bus, and that some of the money may have gone to a senior executive at the Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation (SH). They also alleged that, despite the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Audit Committee investigating these matters, an order had been issued to destroy all the investigation records. The Seoul Metropolitan Government responded by calling for an end to the political attacks.
Han said, “The Seoul Metropolitan Government tells the Democratic Party to stop its ‘make-an-accusation-and-walk-away’ style of political attacks,” adding, “Yet it does not answer why it delayed asking for an investigation all this time and instead blames only the Democratic Party for raising the suspicions. That’s the height of hypocrisy.”
He went on to demand that the city “stop repeating like a parrot that it conducted investigations dozens of times—the number of its own investigations is not what matters,” and “clearly disclose why it held off on requesting an investigation even after preparing a request, whether there was an order to destroy the investigation materials, and who was involved in that process.”
