[Financial News] On the 19th, the day of the funeral for Fire Lieutenant Kim Jin-seok, who died while battling a fire at a factory in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, the Democratic Party pledged to provide budgetary and policy support at the National Assembly level to create safe working conditions for firefighters.
The party leaders attending the Democratic Party’s Supreme Council meeting that day all wore mourning ribbons on their chests. They also held a moment of silence in tribute to Fire Lieutenant Kim before the meeting.
Democratic Party leader Kim Min-seok said at a Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, “Creating safe working conditions for firefighters is an unlimited responsibility of the state. We must replenish in a timely manner the various equipment needed for firefighting, rescue operations and snow removal, and ensure there is no shortfall in support for firefighters’ mental health, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD),” adding, “We will continue to strengthen funding and support for firefighters’ safe working conditions.”
Floor leader Han Byeong-do said, “The Democratic Party will deeply honor the dedication of the deceased, who was the first to rush to the dangerous fire scene and begin fighting the blaze,” adding, “We will take the lead in securing funding, overhauling fire-related systems and developing effective measures to prevent a recurrence, including systems for rescuing and evacuating firefighters.”
