[Financial News] Three key public agency heads who will support Busan’s industries, the local economy and residents’ livelihoods will receive their appointment letters and begin work in earnest.
Busan City announced on the 19th that it had appointed Sim Jae-un as director of Busan Techno Park, Kim Hyeon-jun as chairman of the Busan Credit Guarantee Foundation, and Hwang Seon-ung as director of the Busan Economic Promotion Agency.
The city expects Sim Jae-un, who worked at the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry for 32 years, to lead support programs that reflect businesses’ needs on the ground, given Busan Techno Park’s role as a hub of regional industrial innovation.
Kim Hyeon-jun, who worked in the financial sector for 30 years, is considered well suited to improving small business owners’ access to finance and strengthening the regional financial safety net.
The city expects Hwang Seon-ung to broaden the foundations for regional economic growth, drawing on experience gained at government-funded research institutes and universities.
The three newly appointed agency heads were vetted for their management and policy implementation capabilities, integrity and other qualities at city council confirmation hearings held on the 29th and 30th of last month. All were deemed “qualified” to perform their duties.
The new agency heads will serve two-year terms. The appointment letter presentation ceremony will be held this afternoon in the protocol room at City Hall.
The city said the appointments were significant because, following the launch of the ninth popularly elected administration, it had vetted each candidate’s qualifications through the city council’s first confirmation hearing process and selected people with expertise and on-the-ground experience.
Mayor Jeon Jae-su said, “The head of a public agency holds an important position and must bring about tangible changes in citizens’ lives and the regional economy based on expertise,” and urged them, “I hope the new agency heads will draw on their respective on-the-ground experience and play a key role in enhancing Busan’s future competitiveness as a maritime capital.”
