[Financial News] Broadcaster Lee Hye-sung met with citizens at a talk concert and shared the comfort she found through reading and her experience with giving.
According to the Community Chest of Korea on the 19th, its first talk concert, “The Pureut Lounge,” was held on the 17th at the Community Chest of Korea Hall in Jung District, Seoul. Lee Hye-sung, an ambassador for the organization, took part by donating her talent, and some 120 citizens attended.
The event was organized to share messages of encouragement and giving with younger generations. Lee Hye-sung gave a talk on the theme “In an Age of Loneliness, What Comforts Me.”
She spoke about the reality that, even though people can connect online at any time, it is difficult to meet someone who understands them. She said that even as society changes rapidly, the desire to be understood and comforted by others remains unchanged, and shared how reading had helped her reflect on herself.
“Through works of art such as books, films and music, I found comfort for my loneliness by indirectly experiencing the lives of people in other times and places,” she said. “I think there will be books, films, music and people by your side, too, offering you comfort.”
Lee Hye-sung, a former KBS announcer, currently runs the YouTube channel “Lee Hye-sung’s 1% Book Club,” engaging with the public on reading and the humanities.
During the “A Time to Share Our Hearts” session following the talk, she spoke with citizens through advance-submitted questions and a live Q&A. Lee Hye-sung explained that she decided to join after seeing Choi Tae-seong, a member of the Honor Society, live modestly while putting giving into practice.
She added, “After putting giving into practice myself, I realized that donating isn’t something only people with a lot of money do; it means saving what you have and sharing happiness with others.”
Lee Hye-sung was appointed an ambassador for the Community Chest of Korea last year and joined the Honor Society in April this year. The Honor Society is a group of individual major donors who have donated at least 100 million won or pledged to pay that amount within five years.
Jin Seok-beom, secretary-general of the Community Chest of Korea, said, “We will continue to create various opportunities to engage with younger generations and convey the value of giving.”
